Here is my place to display some of the things I have created, from artwork to writings and even more.

2003

Queen Bea - This started out as a random doodle that I decided to make into a Photoshop graphic. I enjoyed putting in the insectlike details, and I like how the 'honeycomb' background came out.
Boating - I was originally going to alter the central figure from a vacation photograph and use it for another project, but it wasn't quite working out the way I planned, so I did a more straightforward copy of the photo itself. The scene takes place on the river Cam (in Cambridge), and is, as you may have guessed, a boating scene.
Broom - This is an illustration I did as part of a horror-themed board game; I was assigned to work on 5 cards.
Trophy - Another illustration done for the board game.
Iron - Yet another illustration done for the board game.
Vector Self-Portrait - I'm trying to experiment more with Illustrator. Here's the result of some experimentation; I used a photo of myself as the basis (hence the presence of the words 'self' and 'portrait' in the title).
Mona Lisa - This is basically an attempt to improve my Illustrator skills; I'm very familiar with Photoshop, but I haven't done as much work on Illustrator yet. Anyway, if you haven't guessed, this is Leonardo daVinci's Mona Lisa. It's sort of an interesting choice for an Illustrator project, since the soft sfumato effects in Leonardo's paintings are about as far from the crisp graphics of Illustrator as you can get. It took a decent amount of time to put together, but I'm pretty happy with the result.
The Dandy - I drew this as a follow-up to Yet Another Flapper.
Yet Another Flapper - I've drawn another flapper before, but this picture is fairly different from my Jazz Baby picture in both style and attitude. This character makes me think of a silent movie comedienne for some reason.
Flower Child - This was pretty simple and fun to do, and I like the result. The most difficult part was getting the hand right; I had to rework it from my original drawing.
Purple Retro Woman - This graphic was more improvised than most of the ones I do; I didn't have the faintest idea what it would turn out like when I started. Of course, that caused some problems (it was far too big, so I had to resize the image), but everything turned out for the best. I find it amusing that a decent number of the characters I draw wear these insanely uncomfortable high heels when I am loath to wear anything less comfortable than tennis shoes.
Kitten - I found a cute kitten picture and decided to use it as a model for a drawing. I like the soft 'children's book' type quality here.
Cutout Profile - This started out as a completely different project. I used a quick digital photo of myself as a model for a project I was working on, but it became evident that what I was ending up with wouldn't work for the project. However, I liked what I had come up with at that point and decided to run with it; here is the result. I like how the clothing came out. There's a temptation to treat clothing as an afterthought sometimes, and I think I was able to give the sweater I'm wearing some texture while keeping things simple.
Cutout Girl - This is actually a self-portrait; I took a reference photo and used it for this picture. For me, the most challenging part was making the hair look decent while staying true to the simplified style.
Jazz Baby - Here's a fun little flapper drawing I worked on last night. I like some of the effects I was able to achieve, and I think the style I used fits the 'Roaring Twenties' theme of the picture.
The Blues - I decided to try something different from what I usually do. I had fun simplifying the light and color patterns to get the final result.
La Gitana - For those who don't know, 'la gitana' is Spanish for 'the gypsy'. I had fun trying to capture a Spanish/tropical flavor here.

2002

Café Noir - Here, I tried to evoke something of the mood of old French posters while using a slightly different style.
Ad Frame - I recently made this frame as part of an advertisement of my services on custom greeting cards and similar projects. I tried to incorporate different styles in the surrounding figures; the figures on the top right and bottom left probably incorporate my most common styles.
Black and White Woman - This ink drawing was an attempt to do something different than one of my usual styles. I like the negative space; though there are no lines delineating the face, it is defined because of everything around it. I also like the repetition of shapes.
Art Deco Woman - This is my attempt to make something where shape and color, rather than line, defined the figure. I think the resulting effect is pretty interesting.
Trippy Psychadelic Girl - I thought it might be fun to do something that was influenced by 'psychadelic' art. It was a fun challenge to get the colors to clash in just the right way.
Symbolism Hitting the Student Over the Head: An Allegory - A silly little parody of large scale 'history paintings'.
Self-Portrait - A, well, self portrait.
Café Electra - This was drawn for the program of a production I was in. The play it's depicting is "Sure Thing". One thing to note is that the character 'Bill' was changed to the more gender-neutral 'Alex'; the character in the drawing is also somewhat androgynous.

1998 - 2001

Luncheon of the Art Party - A Photoshop collage parodying Renoir's famous painting Luncheon of the Boating Party.
Crossed Arms - A woman with her arms crossed, drawn in a minimalist style.
Blue Girl - A pen and ink drawing of a girl, in which I used both black and blue ink.
Woman - Full length drawing of a woman in a dress.
Woman holding Flower - A curly-haired woman holds a flower.
Cat - A simple drawing of a cat.
Face - A woman's face, cleaned up and painted in Photoshop.
Victorian Lady - A lady in Victorian costume (surprised?).
Femme Fatale - A character who looks sort of like a femme fatale.
Figure Study - I did this as a preliminary newspaper drawing. Though I didn't think it would work with the article, I liked how it came out.
Angel - An angel racing across the sky.

Writings:

Flights of Fancy - A collection of poetry that I did for a project in my senior year. Included are two poems from a never-completed "Cat Story" that I worked on in junior high.

Essays - Here are some of the formal papers that I have written while at college: proof that I do actually do work. You might find them unintentionally entertaining as well.

Miscellaneous:

Adventures in Linear Algebra!: The Great Coding Adventure - This was done as a math project for my Linear Algera class. The professor said we could use any format for our write-up, so I took him up on the offer and did a short comic (Don't worry, I made sure to get the teacher's final OK before turning it in).
